An idea started on a whiteboard inside Kimberly-Clark, ignited a national advocacy organization, and grew into an interactive competition challenging 50,000 riders to pedal 30 million miles this summer. This is how you change the game.

Studies have shown that it takes 21 days to create new habits. Sticking to new habits is more likely if they’re fun, full of variety, and accompanied by encouragement and rewards. Now in its third year, the National Bike Challenge is committed to changing habits of people across the US.  The 2014 site was designed and built specifically for this mission.

Working with Kimberly-Clark, The League of American Bicyclists and the development team of Vector Media Group, Language Dept. designed the user experience and every detail of the app-like site to engage both new riders and die-hard competitors, whether competing as individuals, with their workplace, as a team, or for their cities and states. To make it easy, the site integrates various smart phone apps which automatically log rider's miles.  To make it fun, there are encouragement messages, medals, leaderboards, discussion boards, and a paceline to show who's near you.

“It is exciting to see something that started with four Kimberly-Clark employees on a whiteboard in Neenah, Wisconsin grow into a national program motivating 50,000+ people in 2014 to take charge of their health and wellness.”
— Rob Gusky, Engineering Technical Leader at Kimberly-Clark and K-C's Ambassador of Cycling

“The Challenge is a great tool in achieving our mission of creating a Bicycle Friendly America. We're excited to see the increased use and accessibility that comes with the new website platform.”
— Andy Clarke, President of the League of American Bicyclists
The best way to experience the site is to join! We challenge you.
